I hope everyone had a good long weekend and great Thanksgiving. Last week, we talked a lot about Thanksgiving, its origins, and what we are thankful for. Here are a few of the responses about what we are thankful for in our lives. There seems to be a common theme of being thankful for our school. We are so lucky to have this great school to learn in so close to our homes!
In social studies, we have been reviewing what a community is, what it needs, and what makes our community of Evanston unique and special to us. Today, we started to broaden our understanding of a community and looked at Calgary as a bigger community. We spent some time on Google Maps looking at Calgary from a bird's eye view and also from street view. We discussed what made Calgary unique from other cities in Canada and we will use these ideas to create our own classroom book called "Why I love Calgary" based on the book, Why I Love Alberta. Stay posted for that!
Today we also had our first book exchange. Students were given time to choose 2 books from our learning commons to take home for the week. Please remember to choose a safe spot to store your books where you always know to look for them (example: your desk, a basket, a spot on the counter). We will do book exchange each Tuesday so please be sure to bring books back to school in the Ziploc bag on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
