Oct. 3
I am excited to have the chance to meet with you and your child this Thursday/Friday for our conferences. This will be an opportunity for me to learn more about your child and your family and for you to learn more about our class and your child's learning.
In preparation for Thursday, I am hoping that families can take some time to talk together about some learning/school goals that you would all like to see your child to work towards. This can be a great time to talk together and connect about your child's learning so far this year. You may want to start by asking your child what they think their strengths are in school as this may lead to some natural conversations about where they feel they can improve and grow. These conversations all help with your child forming that growth mindset that we are working towards in our classroom.
Your family goals should be short term goals that are reachable and specific. Sometimes starting with a small goal is good as it gives children the confidence to keep working towards future goals. For example: I want to be able to use capital letters for beginning of sentences and for names or I want to be able to read in a smoother manner. For some ideas on how to set goals together, this article gives some good practical advice:
Goal Setting with Kids
Don't be afraid of doing it wrong or if you run out of time to write it down. It is the conversation and process of goal setting that is so valuable not a perfect goal. I will be doing the same in class and together we can talk about our goals and how we can ensure that we are meeting the goals of the family, the student, and their learning.
I am looking forward to seeing you all this week!
