Oct. 4

We had a really busy day and you may notice that your child's communication folder in jam packed!
You should all have 2 different notices (some of you may have 3) in the "left at home" side of the folder.

The first is about our upcoming book fair. Today students had time to go shop at the mobile Scholastic book store and make a wish list if they wanted.  The book fair will be open tomorrow until Friday. Scholastic book fairs are great for families as they provide quality, affordable, high interest books.  We will visit again as a class on Thursday, so you are welcome to send money with your child  OR you can visit the book fair with your child during conferences on Thursday/Friday OR you can opt out and not visit at all (there is no obligation to buy).

Secondly, you should have a letter and a sign in card for RAZ-Kids, which is our school-
wide home reading program for the year.  (Click here for RAZ-Kids) RAZ-kids is an online reading program that allows students to listen, read, and complete comprehension quizzes.  It has books at 29 different levels, which ensures that your child has a book at a good fit for him/her.  Please let me know if your child's reading level is too difficult and I can change it.  As students read an complete quizzes they will earn stars, which is a little extra motivation for them. They are able to spend these stars in the "Star Zone" and build robots or their own planet. Please note that although RAZ-Kids is a great tool, it is only 1 tool for reading and will not reflect completely on all of their reading skills.  This is a support tool for home reading, but will not be the sole tool used for assessment for their Grade 2 year.  Please let me know if you have any questions about RAZ-Kids.
